Did you know that more than ⅔ of American households have a dog or a cat? That’s around 108 million dogs and 79 million cats (with 22% of households owning both)! We think that 100% of them would agree that having them around is a major life upgrade (even with all the extra fur they spread around). Our Save Dogs and Cats collection is a best-seller for a reason: pets bring so much joy to our lives.

Which is why it pains us to hear that in 2022, around 378,000 dogs and cats were killed in our nation’s shelters just because they didn’t have safe places to call home. As pet owners ourselves (and I would fill the house with pets if my family would allow it), helping bring this number down to zero is an ongoing goal. And that’s why we’ve partnered with Best Friends Animal Society.

Best Friends operates the nation’s largest sanctuary for homeless animals providing adoption, spay/neuter, and educational programs. They got their start back in 1984, when a scrappy group of friends settled in a remote area of Utah’s high desert, believing that every pet has a story and a life worth saving. Together, they took the first steps to forever changing the future for pets in shelters.

Their goal is to ultimately make every shelter and community in the United States no-kill by 2025, and they’re leading the movement by running lifesaving community programs for dogs and cats, providing support and training for animal shelters and rescue groups, and mobilizing community members on behalf of pets in need across the country. Today, nearly four decades after they broke ground for the sanctuary, achieving no-kill across the entire country is within reach.

Their work is so widespread, covering all areas of animal rescue like:
  • Providing safe shelter for pets in need of homes
  • Creating more adoption and foster programs that find homes for pets
  • Creating more affordable spay and neuter programs to reduce the number of animals entering shelters
  • Advocating for pet-friendly legislation (by shutting down puppy mills, protecting cats who live outdoors in their communities, ending breed-restrictive legislation and supporting pet-friendly housing)
  • And so much more

To date, this collection has donated over $215,381 towards protecting animals and finding them homes, which is a number we’re so woofing proud of! If you want to help that number grow, take a look at all the fun ways to wear your love of your furry friends. Or if you’re in need of something with a little extra fur on it, adopt or foster and save a life today.
