In Japanese culture, the crane is a symbol of hope and healing during tough times. It’s also believed that if you fold 1,000 origami cranes, your wish will come true. Our wish (since we made thousands of these pairs) is to see a world with equity for all, and we’re proud to partner with the National Urban League as they work to make that a reality. Each pair supports their mission to provide economic empowerment, educational opportunities and the guarantee of civil rights for the underserved in America.

Public education is one of the most impactful ways to create equal opportunities for children, families, and communities on the whole. Unfortunately, communities of color are too often excluded from education reform, and students are “left behind” struggling in poorly funded, inequitable school systems. These three Fairtrade, organic pairs inspired by peace and hope are just a few of the many (cozy) ways we can support equality for all. This gift box supports our partner, National Urban League, as they fight for education reform that expands and deepens opportunities for these communities.

    Inequitable and Unacceptable
Education has the power to open young minds to a world of possibilities. Public education can be one of the most powerful ways to create equal opportunities for children to thrive. Just as students of color are “left behind” by poorly funded, inequitable school systems, communities of color are too often left outside of education reform efforts.
    Equality in Education
For more than 50 years, National Urban League has gathered the expertise to develop academic programs that address the specific social and cultural needs of young African Americans. Their programs provide intellectually stimulating and character-building educational opportunities not always found in the classroom, closing the equality gap in education.
    Bold Impact for Bright Futures
Students are 85% more likely to go to college when enrolled in these programs. With over 25,000 students enrolled in their education programs, National Urban League exposes youth to the many possibilities of a higher education and provides them with the skills and pathways to get there.
