Pride month is a beautiful celebration of both our unique individuality and our shared humanity. It is a reminder of the progress we have made and the work we still have to do - which is why it’s so important to amplify the people who are using their voices to fight for a more loving, accepting world for all. In celebration of Pride Month, we’re highlighting some of our favorite LGBTQ creators. If you haven’t yet, give them a follow for a daily dose of honesty, inspiration, and creativity.
1. @alokvmenon they/them
If you don’t know them already, Alok Vaid-Menon is unapologetically themself, and we can’t get enough of it. An internationally acclaimed writer, performer, and public speaker, their book Beyond the Gender Binary challenges the world to see gender in a spectrum of full color, not just in black in white. With every post, Alok challenges mainstream beauty standards, and they do it all in beautiful, jaw-dropping outfits.
2. @pinkmantaray he/him
You may recognize Schuyler Bailar from some of his many incredible educational posts that are all over Instagram - all of them advocating for transgender visibility and social reform. As the first trans athlete to compete in any sport on an NCAA D1 men's team, Schuyler is a natural trailblazer and leader. His detailed content is easy to unpack and follow, allowing for any and every follower to get involved and be a voice for change.
3. @annieelainey she/they
Annie Segarra is a content creator and activist known for her YouTube channel where she explores topics around mental health, body image, media representation, disability, chronic illness, and the LGBTQ community. She even started #TheFutureIsAccessible campaign as a call for visibility and intersectionality - a reminder to prioritize accessibility and uplift the disabled people in our communities. Her captions about life with a disability are honest and heartfelt, making you feel like you’ve known her for years.
4. @comfyfattravels they/them
J Aprileo is the founder of Comfyfat.com, a site dedicated to travel, mental-health and inclusivity. Their feed showcases their fashion and personal style, and their voice is refreshingly genuine in the social media world. The most inspiring part? J uses their content to speak out about fatphobia, diet culture, gender, body liberation and mental health.
A critically acclaimed historian and educator, Blair Imani has mastered a distinct voice in delivering progressive lessons in a friendly, approachable manner. Author of three books, Blair will make you #SmarterInSeconds with her digestible content around intersectionality, gender studies, race and racism and so much more.
