Hello from Conscious Step! Every year, we welcome lots of new followers and customers to our site shopping for holiday gifts. And for the first time ever, we thought we’d take a second to reintroduce ourselves, what we do, and the amazing causes we support every day! Keep reading for answers to some of the most common questions about our brand:
How does Conscious Step work?
We partner with nonprofits, make fun stuff, and donate a portion of every sale to that products’ corresponding charity. That way, you’re making a difference with every step (get it?)! Our socks are designed to raise awareness, spark conversations, and inspire others to join the movement. Whether it's supporting education, animal welfare, social justice, or environmental conservation, each step you take wearing Conscious Step makes a tangible impact.
How much does Conscious Step give back?
We donate $1 for every pair sold (that also means $3 - $4 for gift boxes), $1 per candle, and $5 per sweatshirt sold to its respective nonprofit partner. That’s added up to a lot of change over time, with over $1.48M donated to our causes since we were founded! Why $1?
We chose a $1 donation for our socks for a few reasons: it’s a more transparent figure than “a portion of profits” and it’s something we can build right into the product’s price. That also means we can calculate the direct impact of every pair sold (like how many trees planted with Trees for the Future, books given with Room to Read, etc.).
How does Conscious Step choose their nonprofit partners?
When Conscious Step was founded, each partner was chosen specifically to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Nowadays, we are opening our scope to nonprofits that are aligned with your interests so you can wear your support wherever you go. Is Conscious Step eco-friendly?
Short answer: yes! We have really high standards for our materials and manufacturing when it comes to our products. We use high-quality materials with low environmental impact, like organic cotton and recycled polyester, that still ensure that our socks will hold their shape and keep you comfortable for their entire lifespan. Plus, they’re Fairtrade-certified, GOTS organic certified, and Vegan certified, so you know that every step of the process is as people, planet, and animal-friendly as possible. Our sweatshirts are made of 100% organic cotton, which takes a lot less water and pesticides to grow than traditional cotton. And lastly, our candles are handmade in the United States (lower carbon emissions) from locally harvested beeswax, coconut oil, and phthalate-free fragrance for a clean burn.
